Packing your beauty products for travel is a bit more tricky than it used to be due to TSA regulations. But with a little planning, you can still bring all the beauty products you need with you on your flight.
1. Stick to the essentials for your carry-on.
You may want to keep all your favorite products with you on the plane, but that’s not really necessary. Since you’re only allowed one one-quart resealable bag for liquids in your carry-on, you need to stick with the basics. Moisturizer, concealer, mascara, lip balm, gloss can all fit in the resealable bag. If space allows, toss in a toner like Phytomer’s Rosee Visage Toning Cleansing Lotion to freshen and revive skin during and after travel. Or take along Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir, a refreshing toning spray to keep skin moisturized before, during, and after your flight.
2. Limit the size of all beauty products to no more than 3 ounces.
That way you can swap out the products you take in your carry-on if you need to. Buy small, refillable plastic bottles for favorite products that don’t come in travel sizes. If your products are available in travel size, the convenience factor alone may make it worth the extra money. Somme Institute offers a Travel Kit with its full line of products conveniently packed in travel pouch.
3. Organize beauty products.
Keep hair care together, skin care together and makeup together as you pack. This makes it easier to quickly find the product you’re looking for when you get to your destination.
4. Streamline your supply.
While it may be tempting to take ALL your beauty products with you ‘just in case’, don’t give in! Pack a versatile eye shadow compact with a variety of neutral shades and one mascara. One or two lipstick colors – a neutral and a bold – is all you really need.
5. Pack protectively.
Make sure fragile products (especially glass) are snugly wrapped and all products are securely fastened. Add an extra layer of protection by wrapping each item in plastic cling wrap. Try to keep items as far away from clothing as possible (you don’t want any leaks or explosions to leave product residue on your best jeans!). Some people pack beauty products inside a pair of socks to cushion them even more.
