Do you feel anxious? Does your to-do list seem endless? Are you constantly struggling to meet deadlines? You may be one of the 75% of American adults who have experienced some type of stress in the past month.
Stress is how the brain and body respond to any demand. Every type of demand or stressor—exercise, work, school, major life changes, or traumatic events—can be stressful.
Here are 6 easy ways to relax and keep stress levels to a minimum.
1 – Eat Well.
Feed your body clean proteins, fruits and vegetables. Eliminate harmful substances like caffeine, alcohol and refined sugars. This helps regulate hormone levels, including stress hormones, and help minimize stress.
2 – Play Often.
Exercise releases endorphins, which relieve stress. Plus exercise energizes both the mind and body – and makes you feel good!
3 – Laugh It Up.
Laughter reduces tension, decreases blood pressure and increases oxygenation of the blood – all things that help reduce stress. So go ahead, get a little silly and chuckle your way to calmness.
4 – Breathe Deeply.
Taking several deep breaths will calm you down by slowing your heart rate, thus relieving stress.
5 – Take a Bath.
Fill the tub with warm water, add essential oils, light a candle and let yourself relax. The soothing ambiance will help you let go of negative thoughts and emotions and calm the spirit. (REN Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil provides a light rose scent and leaves skin soft and smooth.)
6 – Get Enough Sleep.
It’s a vicious cycle – when you’re stressed, it’s hard to sleep, and when you don’t sleep, you can’t competently handle stress. Following the recommendations in Steps 1-5 should help this problem. Going to bed at the same time each night and waking up at the same time each morning can also help.
